  •  What is the chain of command in relation to USAV, IVA, Clubs, etc?

The following is a breakdown from top to bottom:

  • USA Volleyball
  • IVA
  • Clubs
  • Teams
  • Individuals

  • What is USA Volleyball?

USA Volleyball is the National Governing Body for the sport in the United States as recognized by the United States Olympic committee. USAV is based in Colorado Springs, CO and houses our Men’s and Women’s National Teams in all areas (indoor, outdoor, disabled, etc).

  • What is Intermoutain Volleyball Association?

IVA is a member organization of USA Volleyball. There are 40 regions that cover the United States. The Intermountain Region covers Southeastern Idaho & Utah (basically Boise to St. George). The IVA is the regional governing body as recognized by USA Volleyball for all areas of the sport. Areas include indoor, outdoor, disabled, girls, boys, adults, community and elite. IVA is a 501 c3 non-profit organization and it’s mission is to promote and grow the game in all areas of the region. IVA also trains officials, coaches, players, community directors, and so forth.

  • What is the relationship between my club and IVA?

The IVA assists all clubs and promotes them in all areas of the region. There are currently about 70 different clubs in the Intermountain Region. each of those clubs vary in size. Some have 20 teams, some just have one. IVA does not run, own or operate any club. All clubs are run individually by a club director and in some cases their board of directors. All communication regarding the operation of the clubs as it relates to IVA is done through the club directors.

  •  How much does it cost to play club volleyball?

This is all dependent on your club, what they offer, how much they pay for courts, coaches, uniforms and so forth. Some clubs (usually the rural area clubs, have success in finding local sponsors in the town to assist with club fees). Typically an average player on a club team will pay $600 – $1000, depending on the club. The more that is offered, the higher the price. Of all the fees collected, only a very small amount every actually makes it to the IVA. All of our fees and prices can be found on our website. Tournaments, Memberships and Clinics are the main three. The major part of your club fees come from your club and what they have hard costs for. Those that get creative and gain local support by way of sponsorship have the lowest costs. There are many things that go into a clubs’ budget. Below are just a few of the common ones which are in addition to the IVA fees:

  •  Court Rental, Coaching Fees, Uniforms, Administrative Costs, Balls, Equipment, etc

  •  How much time commitment is there in club volleyball?

The IVA junior club season runs from January through May. Depending on the level of play (Power League or Club), teams are offered five to seven tournaments in that time span. Power League is the high level elite teams who are trying to qualify for the National Championships. Club level teams are those that just want to play locally and improve through year round competition. Practice is really dependent upon the club. Some practice twice a week, some three times a week, some just once… it all depends on the club.

  • Why play club volleyball?

Some play club to improve their skills for high school. Some play to work towards a college scholarship. Some play because it’s fun. Everyone has a different reason for playing but the most important part is that the more you play, the better you get. We have seen many clubs start in the rural areas of Utah and Idaho where it is a high school team or a combination of a couple of high schools and their goal is to get better in order to compete for the state championship. All those clubs that have done this have had great success.

  •  How do I know that my coaches IMPACT training is current?

When you register on webpoint it will tell them if they are current in both areas. Impact Certification lasts 3 seasons. Once registered go to “My Information” go to the light blue tabs in the middle of the page and click on CAP Info. It will tell when you certified.  The Background check lasts for 2 seasons.  When they register and they need a Background Check a Background form comes up that means they are not current.  And if it doesn’t come up then they are current. Again when you do register, go to “My Information” tab and then click the light blue tab called “Background Screening” and it will show your current BG status.

  • Can a player participate in two different age levels in the same division?

Are you playing in Club or Power? They can in club but Power League is different. In club, be careful you are not playing at the same time or same pool. You might have some overlap. Or they can play one age group in Power and 1 in club, you can’t play in the same tournament. Only one team during the tournament. If you win a qualifier your roster becomes locked.
